The mighty rx7 vs the V8's
Well ive put a lil money in my car. Got Upgraded wires and coils and a Drop in K&N filter. Running a full exhuast thats about it. Well i have to say im pretty happy with how fast this lil bit of work made me. Granted i have no traction now through 1st and 2nd but spinning the tires going into fourth is pretty gratifying Anyways, So my first race against one of these Redneck Die hard V8 Culture was when i was driving down a mildly curvy with a hint of a few straights here and their. So im drving down the road when i pull up behind a Mid 80's corvette that had just pulled out of a side road. He comes out of the road drops the clutch and takes off. I was pretty impressed with how quick he was so i caught up to him and we decided to go from a second gear roll. 3rd honk we take off. We were still in torque when we started but quickly jumped into Hp when he completely stopped pulling. We got up to about 80mph before i said o well this is fast enough and is pretty boring since nobody was winning. It was a dead even race which really suprised me and him lol. As for mods on the corvette sounded like a exhaust.
My 2nd one was with a mid 80 Mustang 5.0l. We were driving down the road when he decides that when this car in front of us turns we were going to go. We started from first where he completely took off on my b/c im spinning tires through first and second. Damn him and his torque . But i catch back up to him and we go from a 2nd gear roll. He steps on it i step on it and im playing with this guy. Im getting on and off the gas getting 2 inch away from his bumper letting off getting 3 cars back and getting back on it again and again. Lol this poor guy in the mustang couldnt believe that my weedeater was beating him let alone toying with him.

Incorrect. Remember this simple phrase:
Torque makes you GO.
Horsepower makes you go FASTER.
Don't blame the torque. Blame his TRACTION. And, I'm trying to figure out why you're spinning tires. The mods you've done to your car shouldn't warrant excessive loss of traction through two gears. Or, even spinning them in 4th gear. The suspension on these cars hook up nice. I can try as I might to spin my tires, but I do a mild/decent squeal of the tires in 1st before the thing hooks up and just moves.
Now, cars with HUGE amounts of power, from either a turbo or supercharger, can spin the wheels in almost any gear. But, for an engine that produces about 130 or so horsepower, on a 50/50 weight distribution car, I've never heard of that. Are your tires worn out or something?

but if were at 3grand hes still in torque were he has got waay more then me so pulling him a lil quicker until he hits into the hp transfer. All i know is it was pretty funny watching these guys thinking they were going to beat a weedeater
My motor is brandnew its not old and wore out i think that might be doing it for me. But my tires arent the greatest. Im getting new tires tommorrow so ill see if i can do it then. I hope not b/c no traction pisses me off.

Doesn't matter. It's the traction that he had. He had wider tires than you. And, lower profile. Those cars are built with a suspension to go in a straight line. And, those old Mustang's, if set up right, are nothing to laugh at.
And, you never once said what type of 7 you own. I have a GSL-SE and this thing has some good low-end torque, believe it or not. If you have a 12A, well I don't know how their low-end torque is, so....
And, if you want to have good traction on your gears, learn how to work the accelerator. But, I still can't figure it out. My car ALWAYS hooks up at around 3000 RPM even if I just slam on the gas. However, I don't want to hurt my driveline by dropping the clutch like that. So, I just can't understand how you can spin your wheels freely in 2 gears.

i got a 83 rx7 limited Edition. I know their nothing to laugh at my friend has a mustang running 13's in the quarter and he doesnt have anything done. Yea i got the 12a. Not the best low end but my car has top end. I dont really know why my car is this quick. The only reason i can think of is my motor is new. From the 2nd gear roll i dont lose traction thats why i always go from it. Its only when im in first and really ringing through the gears that he loses traction like that through second.
Im not droping the clutch when im doing that. I just stomp on it. But when im cruising in first gear around 4000 grand and stomp on it it does spin for a sec.
If im at a stop and drop the clutch at 2500 or 3000 grand i dont have any traction through first and pretty much second

Our cars are quick because of their 50/50 weight distribution and light weightedness. And, the rear suspension is setup nicely for our cars. The Japanese knew what they were doing with these things. It may be because of the new motor, but man, if you're losing traction through 2 gears consecutively, you're either doing something right...or something wrong.

if im in first and stomp on it and throw it in second i spin through pretty much half of 2nd.
From a stop and i drop the clutch at 3grand i dont have no traction in first. And i catch traction in the top of second. I throw it in 3rd and i spin enough for the back end to kick a lil sideways and then it catches. When i throw it in fourth it goes "Chirrp"

Then that must be one hell of a new motor under that hood. If anything, when you get new tires on, work on your "take off". Learn how to find that sweet spot to get your tires to hook up. Even before I got new tires on, my old ones were low on tread, about 3/32nds, and I still had traction almost instantly.
Just practice on your acceleration so that you spend more time clawing at the road instead of ice skating.

Well before i had my full exhaust i could drop it at around 3 or 3500 have a lil spin but mostly hooks and i would take off. Ive only had this new setup for a few days no so im still trying to get the feel of it.

I saw in one of your other threads of the diameter exhaust piping you're running. The thing is, with a lot of cars, when you give the engine a less restrictive exhaust, you'll free up horsepower because it has less backpressure to work off of. So, the horsepower is usually found higher up top. Backpressure helps with torque. I believe your torque is still the same but where it's found (RPM range) changes. Someone correct me on this one if I'm wrong.
Really, having the exhaust would have a noticeable improvement when banging through the gears in the higher RPM range (right around 5K, or so, and up), not during take off.

thats why im hoping when i get new tires it stops These tires have got small cracks in them and everything so im thinking that when i get new tires ill hook.

You'll enjoy your 7 more when you get new tires. I fell in love with mine when I (finally) got new tires on. Now, I don't have to worry about flipping my tail in the rain out when taking a turn "mildly" quick.

Maybe that's why. My car is an -SE. My car just hooks up and GOES. I'm guessing his car has a basic diff? I'm not all that familiar with what types of diffs are found in what types of SA/FBs.

I know what you mean man. I used to have a traction problem in first and second also. Then I almost backed it into colvert, couldn't drive in the rain either. Thats when I decided to get some new tires.
It's just a 12a now.

i got a fully stock 85 GS and i can never spin the tires on the tiny 12A. Unless you got an aftermarket carb or a modified nikki this spinning your tires in 2nd seems quite unreasonable. onto the muscle you've been racing, those five o's can get pretty rediculous.

weird to me also. i can chirp going into second but not into third. hell there is no tire spinning at all going into second really. well kinda slightly. this is with a full RB exhaust, RB intake and all emissions deleted.

I have to call BS on this one also. My SA track car, with RB intake and header, Holley 600, second gen driect fire ignition, and a '83 GSL third member, will give a good "bark" going in to second at 6 grand. Hell, my turbo Fb with 200 rwhp will barely spin third. So.........you got any video to back up that 4th gear "chirp".

Good, I'm not losing my mind. Trying to think late at night after being on the road since 3am in a rig makes one lose his train of thought. Glad to see I'm not the only one that finds the "spinning wheels in 2nd" and "chirp in 4th" is B.S.

lol alright its cool that u guys dont believe me. Im sorry that everyone's rx7 is so slow. Sucks that u have to have it and redline to make it chirp 2nd. Lol i can shift at 3500 and chirp going into second. I just got new tires so idk if i can chirp 4th anymore but i can still do 3rd. Ill try to get a video of me doing it.

I'm running 205/70 R13 with no LSD and the only way I can spin 2nd gear, mind you only for a second or two, is if I shift from 6.5-7k in first. This was when it was nice and warm out though, now there's no problem with the cold temps.
If you mean your driving in 1st at 3500 RPMs and then shift to second and get the tires to chirp, I would need a video to believe it. I could see you doing it if you let the engine rev up while you have the clutch pressed from 1st to 2nd.
