NY inspection dyno

can a inspection dyno be modified for tuning? they are for sale all over new york .the state has done away with that tape of inspection..

Not sure if they are the same setup as what NJ used to use, but if they are then no. They are only made to go ~25mph, not the 100+ you would need for a dyno pull....

the smog dyno's we have in CA are good to like 100hp or something. so not really, but it could be used for part throttle, and they will do 60+ mph runs.

i was gonna go borrow one and tune the part throttle on a couple cars actually.

how cheap? CA is getting rid of em too

sounds like something that would be great for "on road tuning" without actually getting out on the road.

yep. our old shop forman was telling me that's what he used to do, no traffic, no cops, you can duplicate it over and over....

for $300 i'd probably do it.

and the 100-150hp that the do isn't useless, it just means you have to let off early

You could tune for vacuum, if it is a load bearing dyno.
Tuning for vacuum is what gives the car the driveability of an OEM car. Most tuners only tune for boost;
then the car runs like a flooded Holley Carb off boost With a lot of surging and bucking.

i went to go look at it today....it was the biggest one i ever seen. i guess thats why it's $300
