Your Arch Enemy
In 2005 I bought my white 1983 GSL with around 100,000 miles from the original owner. She had performed all scheduled maintenence, took excellent care of the car and gave me a huge stack of receipts. Engine had been replaced too.
Since then I have added another 20,000 miles and done nothing to the car other than routine maintence.
I paid only $1,800 for this jem.

My Rx
Well it may not be the best deal dollar wise listed here, but I wouldn't change it. I paid $9,345.00 for my 79GS W/sunroof, alloys and grey velour seats. That was April 1979. Still have the car and orginal window sticker.
Recently, I bought a 80 in orginal cherry condition for $3,500. A bit steep but it is in impressive condition.

Bought my 84GSL in November 2005 for $5000 CDN. I do wish I had spent more time looking, but I wasnt as smart about shopping around as I am now. I don't regret buying this one but I do wish I had looked for a cheaper one in similar condition. Car was in great shape when I bought it aside from a faded interior and naturally the worn old suspension. I have been beating the hell out of it so it's a little rough around the edges now, but still a great car. Had 136K KM on the odo and now has about 165K on it. I've put about $7000CDN into it for carb, fuel pump, regulator, exhaust, stereo, tires and suspension as well as a ton of odds and ends that don't seem like much but really add up. About $1500-$2000 of that was shipping and duties. I hate having to order nearly everything from the US, it gets expensive. Hopefully another $10K for wheels/tires, engine rebuild and porting, and paint will finish off the project and I can just drive it and enjoy.

I hope you guys are sitting down
In spring of 2007 I payed 5800 USD for my 1985 Fb.
I bought it from the original owner with 32000km ca(2000miles)
so the car was in pretty good shape.
It had been sitting in a garage from 1992-2007.
From 2007-2009 I have spent around 13200 USD on my car
I have done a Rebuild and ported motor, and some goodies from Re-Speed,Racing Beat and Sparco
I guess I need to put another 13000 k into it ,to get it the way I want.

paid nothing for it. got her as a roller. the suspension was trash, interior was trash. didnt have a hood or bumper. Got lucky here online and at my local junkyard with parts. Even the ENGINE is from a junked GSLSE i found at a junkyard. I would say ive spent $2-3k on everything just to get it running
