Holy crap i have been mia
Since the sale of my 7 some time ago i have not been able to find a good candidate in my area for a body. Since my love of rotaries will always be here i have not given up.
Please enjoy these pics of well......my boinger. Tossing around 20b idea for this baby.
I hope all my 1st gen buds are doing okay.
Special shout out to Sam,Stu,Ray,kent, jeff and all the rest of you crazy bastards.
73 240z 280zx motor n42 high comp head valves yuck i know Dual su carbs 10:1 compression.....not a 20b but it will do. Fresh mopar sublime green paint.
Came to me looking like this.
The final product.
In true rotary fashion it launches some nice fireballs

Welcome back, you rascal.
"Sublime Green..." my second car was a '73 Satellite in that color or something very close to it.
If you gotta have a boinger, an early Z is the right one to have. I'd love to have a 240 sitting in my garage next to my -7, with my 350Z staring at them both... except they'd probably keep me up all night, growling and hissing at each other.

Looks good Ben. Once you turbo it, we'll welcome you back Just kidding. Glad your still lurking around. You should come down and get this SE from me. It would make a nice addition to your Z. Or better yet, come down and pick up this Z from my buddy.

Nice Ben, next best thing to an FB! Maybe even better in the Old School camp. With a three rotor it might be real interesting. What else are you going to do with all that space under the hood?
I love the dual SU's, had them in my '67 Volvo 122 and '78 MGB. The weekly synchronizing became a ritual, especially during the long NE winters.
Welcome back! If you are serious about reentering the world of Fb's, you should look for something down here in Georgia, they don't have rust and you can pick up a real good deal, they've been selling like hot cakes lately.

No shame at all in owning a Z. I also had a 73, but with the triple weber setup (much better than the SU junk). Beautiful car, but eventually died from frame rot even though the body looked great.
I was actually looking for another one when I found my RX7. No regrets, but I would love to have another 240 if I ever get enough room in the driveway.
Welcome back man!!!

the 280 weighs to much over 600lbs more than a 240. that the biggest reason why i would never own a 280 but the price is right. Kentsu su's are good as long as they are rebuilt and the throttle bushings have been changed to bearings. Plenty of z's pulling huge numbers with them. Trips are nice though for wot no doubt there.
Curb weight on the 240 is 2,365 with no gas its light.
20b would be nice but costly. NO sense even wasting time with a 13b. If its gonna be done its gotta be all out or there is no point.
Ray always looking for a fb but this time it needs to be bone stock or full on race prep. i am trying to see if billy still has that race car.
I need something to vintage race. I was with the zed until i painted and insured it. It got a fixed value from hagerty for 12g's and at 200 a year premium it does not get abused.

its fuel injected so its at least a 75 and that was the first year of the 280, 280 has always been injected. 260 was only one year in 74. 240 was 69-73 and went threw 3 body changes in 69-73 alone. anything after the 240 is quite honestly inferior to the 240 in every way except displacement. The 240 was the first REAL Japanese sports car to make it over here. (Prior was the Roadster)It showed America that japan could compete in force and crush American muscle and make British cars cry. The 240z is one of the top ten best cars ever made says car and driver.
As the years went on datsun started making it more of a touring car heavier power windows ac etc. It got out of hand at the end of 78 and thus the bastard zx was born and its all been junk since then. Not knocking the 350 but its no longer a True sports car.
My 240 handles like its on rails but it is also the most uncomfortable car to be in for more than 30 minutes. Creature comfort is sacrificed for pure raw driving.
Another thing i had never experienced in a boinger except for the lsx series of motors is these engines pull all the way till 8 grand. In fact the owners manual suggests it for top performance and longevity of the motor.
The motors are internally balanced as well. I have a set of rods here and they are all withing .001 grams of each other. That says alot for motor that is 36 years old. Beats the old american balanced flywheel and front weight and thats all you get routine.
I want a 20b in it so bad but for the cost it might not be worth it in the long run. Although cool points would be threw the roof.
Sorry if this turned into like learning and stuff lol. I have always loved that re-speed car and love the look of the imsa 7 wish billy would chime in here.
Kentsu such as shame complete floor pans with rails are available as well as frontal fram rails under the engine. Mine has complete new pans and frontal rails as i had the same fate as you.
Nothing a chop saw and a welder could not fix.

Sure here you go. The last picture is a cyl bore from a motor i have with over 300,000 on the clock. The factory cross hatch is still intact. Nickel bores are sweet. The block is a early 77 280 block i am boreing to 89mm and throwing a diesel 2.8 crank in with 240 rods to make a 3.1 liter stroker.
Motor will come out this winter so i can paint engine bay.
Waiting for japan2la to get a hold of me on price of a 20b.

Had a friend in high school who had a second-hand 260 that we rocketted around Omaha in, before we all left town.
And it's easy on the buttocks on long drives.

that being said, the 240z engine is one of the few that is cool enough, that the rotary swap isnt really needed. the Z motor sounds great, and is capable of making as much hp as you need

Someone should really pick that thing up barring what the underside looks like. There is no such thing as a rust free z lol. Its not what you can see that should scare you........

the one that I'm looking at has been sitting inside a garage, lifted to the second floor and has been sitting there for over 10 years.

check under battery tray and inner fender around battery. Check around the torison rods up front. check the doglegs behind the door. open hatch look at drip rail. Exhaust fumes eat this area. DATSUN NEVER SEAM SEALED PANELS THERE ALL SPOT WELDED. oh yes there will be rot. remove cowl look under wiper motor. I thought mine was pretty good. until it went to paint a 2k paint job turned into 7 after they beed blasted the car.
