nice leather sport wheel you have there!!! i'm buying another 7 here in a few days and am wanting to install a set of waffle wheels and was just going to try and get a heads up on the look before i actually mount the tires to the wheels and throw them on the car and decide if i like the look

Hey guys...don't mean to thread jack, but...the spare tires that came with my 79 and 80 look just like that except they aren't gold...they don't fit my 83...why is that? the 79 has studs and the 80 takes lug bolts like the 83 does....just a stupid question, but I really have been wondering about that.

I find it very odd that the SAs had 4 different waffle wheel choices, along with the steelies, yet when the FBs came out, it was + wheels or steelies with the exceptions of the LE and SE wheels.
Personally, I like the waffle pattern, beats the hell out of the + ones. I think a set of waffles with a powdercoated background, then polish the flat faced edges and lips would look really sharp.

I love this forum...I learn so much...so what you are saying is waffles on an SA is stock...like I said before, the spares look just like that, and the + are also stock on an FB...they are just options, but not aftermarket? what about the studs vs lug bolts? Did any come with studs from the factory?

i agree with that trochoid. a nice powdercoat job would look great!
kymber, the wheels may not fit because the lug bolts that you are trying to use from the 83 are not long enough to accomidate the waffle wheels. 79-80 waffle wheels used a longer lug bolt than the 81-85. someone may have added lug studs to your 7, as i have seen that done before. the offset from 79-95 is the same except for the 84-85 SE.

I see....makes perfect sense! So, with longer lug bolts I could put the waffles on either car...How do I get those darn studs out?? (some of them are loose anyway) last question and I'll leave ya'll alone...
btw...I agree...the powdercoat would look great on those!

If the studs were installed correctly, there shoud be a spot in the end of them for an allen wrench. If not and you need to go longer, use vice grips to remove or double nut them. When installing the new studs, use blue locktite, red if you know for sure you won't be taking them out again. Fwiw, I powdercoat wheels.

The offsets changed from Gen to Gen. 1st Gens are 15 or 20 I believe, FC is 40, and the FD was 50 or 55 IIRC. I actually swapped the waffle wheels from my SA to my FB so I could use the plusies on the SA. I'll snap some pictures for you tomorrow. Only reason I changed them was the waffles vibrated really badly and the tires are dry rotted.
