dug up the Tr3 today

sharing cause an SA/FB will do this when they are 53, and hey its fun!

last year ended with the wheel falling off, and the new fancy made in an ISO 9001 *chinese* factory clutch master cylinder not working. the weather also has been COLD (40's) and rainy, so basically its been sitting since november.

so upon un earthing it, the battery was dead (but crazy ralph is letting me warranty it, this is why knowing someone at the dealership is good!). so i bled the clutch, borrowed the battery from peepers. cranked it until oil pressure showed on the gauge, pulled the choke out and it was running!

so not only did it fire right up and run just fine right off the bat, ALL of the electricals work too. not bad for 53 year old!

the progress list is short for 2011. i bought 2 OEM lockheed master cylinders, these being made in england may possibly have the same threads as the brake lines in the car, unlike the chinese junk. i need to change the engine and carburetor oil

it gets a FULL detail, and then its in my friends wedding party

Damn. A Brittish sports car. Thought those things went extinct. Gotta love the Prince of Darkness electronics.

Very nice. Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. I'd love to have that one.

He bought it because it's drop dead gorgeous.

You can get them on ebay:

I love the dual SU's. And check out those Lucas electronics.

The little brass hex caps on top of the SU's are for changing the carb oil. That green valve is to let the smoke out.

Very nice car indeed!

Back in college I had a '64 Spitfire.....took my future wife out for a 1st date ('82) in that thing....broke down in the middle of no where (10 mile outside of DeKalb IL)....she thought I had it planned, until I put on the coveralls pulled out the tools and removed the fuel pump, disassembled it and put it back together (pretty much my way of fixing everything)....started it back up and on with our date!
I miss that car....kind of an unrefined version of my RX7.

i measured it up, the 20B is shorter than the stock engine. it uses a front mount plate like an FB too. although the suspension has no camber or caster, so the stock engine is actually enough!

and like a 240Z, the stock engine SOUNDS great, so if you wanna do a rotary british car, IMO the MGB is the one, an FB 12A will almost literally bolt in. engine is the same length, shifter would be in the right place, the front engine mount plate is even almost the same width.

the garden hose valve is the heater control.

I used to know someone who had exactly that. An MGB with a 12A.

Did I tell you about the time I was parked on campus in my MGB?

There was a group of dignitaries nearby taking the campus tour. When I started it up I could smell smoke and after a few seconds I realized it was coming from behind the seats. When I turned the key off the smoke just kept coming so I hopped out and scrambled to get into the battery compartment, you know the one with the plate and four little spring mounted screws that are really hard to get to?

Eventually I got the cover off and extinguished the flames, much to the amusement of the tour group.

Brittish sports cars, gotta love 'em.

Fortunately the Mazda engineers ripped off all the good points from the Triumph/MGB lineages and added Japanese engineering to give us the FB.

sweet! i've taken mine to a few car shows, and maybe a third of the owners are still original, they roll up their cigarettes in the tshirt sleeve and drink beer @10am!

the guy who wins@ concours is a young guy, car is WAY over restored.

BTW, my car appears to have the original engine/carbs/etc although everything has been rebuilt. it appears to have left england in red, although it was redone in the 80's, its got that 80's imron style paint on it. the english cars are neat, i can send away, and they will give me the build sheet, so i would probably get build date, color, options etc

yep! some of these are reruns. the kids are my cousins, they thought it was a full size toy car, which is kind of true.... oh and they are blurry like that in real life too

i changed the dashpot oil and went around the block a couple times playing with the mixture screw, and its never run so good! i've forgotten how fast it is in traffic too, its only 100hp, but you look UP at a camry!

That's a great looking car. A friend of mine had a similar story as Pat's, except his car died for the exact same reason but infront of a strip club in 105 degrees and no clouds. He ended up marrying her.

Here's his lastest project.

Its a Series 1 GT, that's the intake manifold from a Sunbeam Tiger, flows up to 7000 RPMs.

Last night we were messing around with 31x10.5 BFG A/T, with the Jackstands under the frame they fit.
