Almost poked my eye out
Literally. Previous owner put in a standard non retracting antenna on the car. I
never bothered with it since... well, it worked. Well today I went to close the garage
door and turned around, perfect level with my eye. Rod bounced off my eye and into
my socket, world turned a lovely shade of pink. Went to the hospital and they said I
must have been in the process of looking up cause usually it would just pierce the
eye? Anyways, they call it a corneal abrasion, I have what looks like 1/4inch wide
busted blood vessel in my eye, going all the way up. It scratched the hell out of my
socket, that's where the blood came from. I swear, the only time I ever see a doctor
is because of this car....
Anyone have that link to the Bosch power antenna?

I like my anodized black antenna better: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/another-power-antenna-alternative-pictures-790301/
Better quality than the RadioShack/etc one most use and its nice not to have the chrome mast.

Glad it's not worse Stu, hope you make a quick and full recovery. A good lesson to all of us to keep our power antenna's in good shape!

It normally would have pierced but it bounced off? So you must have some sort of mega eye. I'm glad to hear it wasn't more serious. And +1 on that anodized black antenna. Beautiful

I had a rubber antenna on my old 914. Reception was fine and I never poked my eye out once!

Lol Thanks guys. Yeah that post I made in Sgt Fox's thread sure did bite me in the ***!
I have 2 options, either glass over the hole, or get a black antenna... hmmm
And yes Ray, that picture was the last time I saw a doctor. For those who don't know,
inspection plates are sharp and can give you upwards of 4 stitches

Crikey these cars are hazardous, just working on mine i've gashed my thumb open, been burned by molten rubber, and splashed 16 year old gas in my eye, though these could have been avoided. Glad to hear you didn't get perma-owned, I vote black antenna, having a small stick is better than no stick

A slipped wrench under the car once caused me to crack my elbow on the floor, which later developed into bursitis... can't really claim that as being a model-specific injury, though.
One injury I'll never have to worry about with my seven, though: Was replacing a piston on my '73 Satellite, with the help of a friend. I was underneath guiding the rod onto the journal; he was above and supposed to seat the piston with a rubber mallet.
He was early. I had a finger still between the rod bearing and the journal.

man vs machine
injuries are not specific to our cars, I have hurt myself many times on cars in general. Once used a big *** screwdriver to tighten a belt on my girlfriends (at the time) mothers car. Was underneath it using the screwdriver to leverage the PS pump (i think, been many years ago). In the usual improper tool for the proper job, it slipped and came down point first on my chin. half inch split all the way to the bone. I finished the job, then went inside for some butterfly bandages, would have been at least 4 stitches a the hospital. My beard covers the scar nicely.

last april i was working on my 85 GS and, when using a little leverage, a stud snapped and the thick metal cheater pipe came loose and zipped off of the rachet..with every ounce of strength i had mind you...and made contact with my left eye socket.. knocked me to my hands and knees and blood started dripping steadily from my left eye brow region. i drove myself to the hospital and they glued me shut. you could see my skull if the cut was opened.

Un f'n believable.
Glad you weren't hurt worse. I couldn't count the times I've hurt myself working on vehicles (or in life in general).
Things seem to come out more positively if I think to myself; lord please help me to not hurt myself (or anyone else around) while doing this. This makes me think twice about what I'm doing.
Unfortunately, it's impossible to do this for every action we take. All we can do is try.
At the moment I don't recall a self injury that stands out, but some years ago I was hanging out in a friends small barn in northern NY in the winter. He was trying to get this old snowmobile running. As he pushed the flywheel(finned) with his thumb, the compression kicked it back and popped his thumbnail off. I was laughing my *** off as he danced around yelling, until I saw what he had done.
