1st Gen Turbo Edition Built by SAE ( looking for others )
I bought this car in Salt Lake City from a dealer. I noticed it when driving by the dealership, The Turbo 7 on the bottom of the car caught my eye, So I inquired about it. They told me it was a trade in, It had a bad motor and they just wanted it gone, So they sold it to me for $200 dollars.
I noticed that it had a Id Plate located just below the Shifter, it said RX7 Turbo Edition. Desighned and built by. Shumway Automotive Engineering ID # 480682-002
I would say it was probley the 2nd one built by this shop. I think there may me a few more of these cars out there, Im just tring to find them. It has a 12a with the BAE Turbo setup (old style ) I figure becaues it looks like it uses the Stock carb. If anyone knows anything more about this SAE company or where-abouts of the other cars that may have come from this shop, Please let me know.
I did some Road Racing with this car and it did very well.

Awesome find, I envy you!
I was wondering what is done to the car to get it to nearly 2000 lbs.?
And dont ever get rid of those wheels!
Also do you have the specs on that turbo?
EDIT ::
SA externally modified into an FB?? Interesting, I thought that instrument cluster looked out of place with that body lol!

I think the company was out of Califonia, I have been tring to find someone that knew about this company for years and years now, Still with no luck.
On the original engine there wasnt anything special done to it when I tore it apart, It looked pretty much stock. all the mods on the rebuild I did myself. I have never tore the carb apart to see if any mods were done to it.

I think a dead give away would be if someone had the Turbo 7 runners across the bottom of the car. I have never seen these before.
As far as the weight of the car pretty much took alot of the interior of the car out, The real weight drop was the bumper mod. I took off the 79 bumpers and put just the skins of a 82 on it. I just hope nobody hits me the bumper are only for looks, they wont stop anything. I put the car on some 4 corner scales and without me in it, it came just under 2100 lbs. Witch is kinda funny because that is what my Datsun BRE510 weighs.
Oh and yes that is Peter Brock himself sitting in the car at the Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.
Dont know the specs on the turbo. It was the one that was on the car when I got it.
I love the wed wheels I picked them up from a guy how was getting out of the RX stuff, Got them for 500 about 15 years ago.
I also just picked up 3 rx2s and 1 rx3 from a 92 year old man, I have known him for 25 years and he loved the older mazdas. but just got to old to work on them. I kept after him to sell them to me year after year and finally got him to sell them. most have been in storage since the 80s.
Can you say Barn Find
Let this be a lesson to some of you. If you get to many projects you may get to old to finish them.
