1985 GSL-SE restored and only 25k miles

Should I get off my *** and sell my soul to get it? I'm very tempted... I miss my FC a lot and as much as I love my Audi A4, German car maintenance has been about $2k since July of 08....

I feel like the FB would be a bit more reliable but also sounds like its worth it because its rare and literally MINT condition! I doubt I'd be able to leave it stock.... probably couldnt treat it like the collector car it is but I could sell my car and still have 1500 in play money after buying the FB... So.. help me decide lol. No pix currently and if I personally don't buy it I will be helping sell it. Right now they are having every single ding popped out and the bumper covers repainted due to just normal wear. It's charcoal with red interior and the rear diffuser. Even the power antenna and radio still works. So... help me decide lol.

FB or keep this

those audis are great cars.. but yea tooo expensive for maintenance. i say go for the fb.. the only maintenance i've done are performance mods. the gas mileage is about the same as the audi (if yours gets the same as my friend's). and insurance should be cheaper

My A4 gets almost 30mpg at 80mph lol.

Sad thing is I know me and the FB will end up turbo'd. I was surprised when Rolfs7 told me that the FB's had 3mm apex seals though. Thats pretty awesome. Pretty sure if I can manage it I'm going to get the FB and put FD twin turbo's on it (he was pretty sure they fit in there but I thought they didn't but hey maybe he's right). And a megasquirt ECU and run it on E85. Project one hell of a sleeper bwahahaha.

I'd hate to do all that to a perfect car though... but hey its probably worth it lol.

if you are looking at buying an original GSL-SE with 25K miles and are considering modding it, keep your current car. the SE is a scarce beast and it would be dreadful to mod a true survivor.

If you guys knew how little he paid for the car you'd all cry. From what I've heard the car has been kept in a heated garage for almost 10 years.

How much will YOU have to pay for it?

The FB, whether it's GS, GSL or GSL-SE makes a great daily driver. Extremely reliable, easy to fix (most things you can do yourself in the backyard with a few simple tools) and more fun to drive than just about anything else on the roads these days.

The Audi is nice (although deprived in style compared to the FB) but for the price of an average repair on that thing you could buy an SE parts car or some very nice upgrades, like a full RB exhaust system.

A couple more perks. Being a 25 year old car, the FB's don't need to go through emissions inspections in many states and because they are easy to fix (just buy another one if the damage is too severe) you don't need to buy comprehensive insurance coverage, saving even more money.

I could probably get it for 4500-5k.

I can't find a reason why this car wouldn't be smart to buy. If anything its an investment lol.

I was guessing $5,000, without seeing it. Post the pics, but buy it first so someone else doesn't get it first.

I haven't seen it in person but I know the body is going to be 100% The interior I am told is but I will decide that when I see it. I will definitely drive it and do a compression test first but I fully expect 100 psi for all 3 on each rotor.

If I don't get it I'm selling it on commission lol. Because I'm the one that knows about the car where he doesn't have much a clue lol.

oops sorry for double posting hehe

It's charcoal with red interior. It's currently getting bumpers resprayed from I assume chips in the paint from bugs and any and all the dings were popped out. When its out of there I will be taking some high quality DSLR pix of it lol

It's pretty much identical to the FB that made me fall in love with rx-7's.... which is another one thats local in mint condition. Small chance its even the same one but I doubt it

I personally would like to hear that the car stays stock, but I will say if you buy it, it'll be your car and yours to do whatever you want. I won't tell a man what he should do to his car and what he shouldn't, but I might suggest letting it just be a very well preserved example of the best and most desirable (arguably) first gen ever sold.

agreed, if i were to do it, i'd buy one as a "show car" and one for performance. my SE came with like 160k on it, i'm now at 186k and still driving hard!

my friend's audi gets low 20s... i guess the manual really helps

Your A4 looks cool, if quattro that mitgates the fail wheel drive.

But from my experience, I never even consider a car until I see pics or the real thing in person.

You do realize everyone one is going to tell you not to rape a survivor.. Secondly your first post you made the epic failure of talking about reliability of the GSL-SE and then boosting it in the same sentence. Just my 2 penny's

I say buy the FB and boost that bitch lol. sure the engine won't be stock, but do a damn nice clean install with your mods, and it will look like it it was supposed to be there all along. I'd say get a second engine to rebuild and boost, in case you blow that engine you'd have your original to go back to and as long as you don't wreck it or tear the **** out of parts, guess what, it will still look like a collectors item.

but it'll be your car man, as stated above most people here will tell you to keep it stock, but ultimately its your choice.

Unless he's got the 4.2 somethings wrong with his car hahaha.

and I know exactly what you guys mean about preserving it... unfortunately im not very good about that... Just seems like such an ideal start for a project........

Me and my buddy would very likely boost 2 at once he has a gsl-se as well and we could always make twins haha. Would make tuning a whole lot easier.

I have all sorts of plans for how I would do it...

Fd twins, homemade FMIC piping with all the welds smoothed out and powder coated, megasquirt, tuned for 93 and e85, full 3" exhaust, brand new wiring harness with a new fuse box, stainless fuel line all the way from the tank and a new pump. I will not cheap out on it. Although I would still do it relatively inexpensively compared to half the cars out there hahah. I assure you it would look really really clean though

If I do do this I will keep every single stock part on the car in a box so that the car can still be returned to its previous glory.

Why don't you just post some pic's of the se and see if some one actually wants a completely stock, low mile car and help sell it to someone that wants to preserve it. I for one may be on the list of potental buyers.
