Alright, I decided to use the high performance enamel (touted at being used for industrial applications) in spray. The first coat turned out all right, after using 320 grit wet sandpaper. It took roughly 3 cans to get a thick coat, though due to the limitations of the nozzle, there are inconsistancies leading to a 'streaky' appearance. From more than 6 feet away it looks good, but closer you can tell. This coming week I plan to sand with 400..then 600 then buff and polish it with an orbital buffer. I haven't seen any wet sandpaper over 600 grit. Where are you finding it?

I'll post pictures once I get the film developed...yes, I used an old camera because my sister took my digital to DC.

Probably worth archiving.

Would have saved me finding the same subject matter on a GTO board. Presently trying this, results are good thus far, if tedious.

i did this to my GSL over the summer. it was very time consuming and tedious(?). i did the coats too thick so i had orange peel. after practicing on the car when i did the front bumper cover i laid it on a lot thinner and it looked PERFECT. i ended up making it thick too so the car would atleast be symetrical. i accomplished what i wanted to, to experiment with it.

heres my cliff notes:

VERY time consuming
VERY cheap

if you have A LOT of time to spare and you want to save cash, do it. also, the boat paint holds up AWSOME. its so durable. my car was hit and totalled a couple months afterwards buy a F150. the paint handled the impact very well.

if i were to do it again id use the same paint but id spray it on.
