(OIL) Oil metering pump fixed! GSL-SE

[FONT=arial]Hello everyone, just wanted to post some GOOD news about the car! I was underneath the car sunday evening while changing the oil and I decided to try and take a look at the oil metering pump, which I was convinced something was wrong with because the rod that connects it to the throttle bar was getting jammed up. Turns out there is a small spring on the pump that returns it to it's resting position when you aren't on the throttle. This spring had broken on my pump so it was all over the place. This was what was causing my car to smoke a lot and use a quart of oil every 300 miles! I rigged the spring up to work again and I have driven over 300 miles now with it fixed with no smoking and the oil level on the dipstick is the same since I changed the oil
I am one happy camper. Feels great to find the problem and be able to fix it without spending any $$$.

Just something to watch out for on your GSL-SE if you start having problems with excessive oil consumption/smoking, or your gas pedal won't go down all the way, something to check.
Take care.

Could this problem also occur in non-GSL-SE models?

I have a '79 that exibits similar traits. Also, how much do I have to dig into the car to find the oil-metering pump?

Thanks

As far as I know te pumps should be simular.
The pump is down on the passenger side (left )
of the engine just below the water pump.
It is very easy to spot.

I would like to confer here. I had the same prob on my OMP on my SE, same oil consumption problem about 300 to a quart. If your SE has similar probs check the OMP return spring.

Hi
I'm having a low rev smoke problem on a 2nd gen.

Car runs great but smokes when driving slowly through town.

Not enough to panic yet but I'm trying to figure out what the problem is.

I will pull the engine but want to be sure that the problem is internal. There is leaking around themetering pump!

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks
