Auto Transmission RPM's

I have an 85, 12A engine, automatic transmission with overdrive. I have noticed that when floored, it shifts at 6000 RPM's even though the redline isn't until 7000. Is this normal?

Normal shift pattern. You can disable the O/D to get a more aggressive shift pattern.
