Kancamagus Highway Rotary Run 2009 May 2-3rd
I was just watching some great footage from Deals Gap Rotary Rally 2008, and it reminded me that we have a highway just as nice and as much fun here in New England: The Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire.
I would like to gauge interest in creating our own Rotary Run, not to compete with the DGRR by any means, but to use what natural beauty we have in our own back yard.
The Kancamagus is a 32 mile pass that twists and turns up and down the White Mountains of New Hampshire, peaking at 3,000 feet. If any of you have been on it, I am sure i do not have to sell you on it; it is a joy to drive, even in my underpowered, body rolling Subaru.
Responsibility is always key with these events, as we don't want to give our community a bad name or for anyone to get hurt; rotary patron or any other motorist. I dont mean to be dramatic, but there is literally danger at every corner if you do not fully respect the highway.
I was thinking we can gauge interest and either plan it for a 1 day event or 2 day event. It's a perfect spot for outdoors activities, such as swimming, hiking, bbq'ing, sightseeing, or even camping. There are towns at both ends of the highway, so we can find a place to get some food after the event.
Any ideas or would anyone be interested in going if we can organize an event? Again i do not want to compete with Phil's DGRR so we will plan it around that. I'm thinking late Spring or Early summer would be great, I don't have the A/C to deal with late New England Summers and long car trips.

damari- yea its a great drive with beautiful scenery.
one side of the highway (conway) is a huge tourist trap, so we'll definitely find something to do. should be a great time. there's an awesome natural waterslide that we should check out too.
im glad there's interest. we'll get this out to the rx-8club too. probably the protege and miata clubs too.
it's probably a little too early to try to set a date, but a nice weekend in the spring sounds good.

First, why does it have to be a "Rotary Run"?
Don't forget the people in NE that have gone over to the dark side.
Second, NE Motorsports puts together some awesome cruises up there. I took my bike on one early October and they had 98 cars and 5 motorcycles. A few Supras, Subarus, EVOs, a Porsche, number of Mustangs, Skyline, etc etc etc.

I'm on my bike about 47 seconds in; first one. If you get bored don't close it, jump to 3:07 for the sick sounding Mustang and then keep watching for the Supra.
This is a very well edited video of the cruise as well:

Rick, my RX7 (Hellboy) should be finished by the end of April

i hear ya taylor, but the more cars the more unwanted attention it will draw. i would like to keep this small, but feel free to invite friends. this isnt going to be my meet alone, so lets make it as fun/safe/good as possible.
i would hate for this to end up like the natick meet where one stupid person ruins it for everyone.
i still havent posted this on rx-8club, but i will tonight.
i should talk to Jason (rotaryrocket7) to see if he wants to make this a NYRA meet too. too bad about his car.

I'm down to go if other NYC/LI guys are riding up there, I dont wanna ride out alone cause that would be a long lonely ride haha. Also who cares if NYRA goes, them ****** are corny (not you Roan). The only good meet was RotorFest because other older FD guys showed up. I went to a couple of meets last year and dont know if I'll be attending anymore this year. A few LI and Queens guys are thinking of having our own meets instead.

Then we should plan to have our own RXx Kanc Cruise and also go on the NE Motorsports Cruise when they have theirs.

Hey the NYRA is just a bunch of us guys getting together and just chill...Yea there alot of FB FC that goes to the meet.. There isnt alot of FD out there in the street...Some FD are getting some mods and some people dont drive there FD that much...There is no need to be knocking the NYRA down for no reason because there isnt alot of FD at the meets....
