very sorry to hear that. i would try and fix it. one tip thow never use Armor All at all its a body mans worst nightmare and when you want to paint your int to a nother colour it shows it will run and leave bubble marks in the paint. i know this because some of my int had Armor All.

Bubble Marks.. Ack! Thanks for the heads up. From now on its spit and vinegar for this guy Haha seriously though, can I use pretty much anything other than AA?

I will wait to see what insurance offers me for it, I only had it 6 days so I am hopeful... Maybe they will give me a chance to buy it back for a reasonable price, it is still in alignment.

honestly damage doesn't look that bad to be a total loss. fender, hood, bumper, headlight , and front cowel, you can probably get a parts car for like 300$ and get all those panels replaced.

Fixable, yes.......in the real world.

But insurance won't simply say, yeah I know where to find some cheap parts and there's not *that* much paint involved.....it'll be list prices on everything, salvage stuff included, paint, blending, undercoating, R&I trim parts etc.....there's probably a 4-5K dollar estimate on the car valued in their books at $2500 (if that)

That said, buy it back, buy another FB, drive that one for years on the parts from this one

Thanks Joe, I sure hope I can pull it off like that. I've never been involved in an accident let alone a write-off so I'm not sure how much I will be able to buy it back for... I guess time will tell.

In the meantime, I am looking long and hard at 2 other cars:

Aviator 902S's 1985 GSL - high kms on body and unknown on motor but I still feel so comfortable buying from him since he has been extremely good to talk to thus far.

1985 GSL SE - 1/3 less km's that Aviators but unknown history.. for some reason I am drawn to the SE sexiness.

Well.. I spared you some of the gory details. I was waiting to turn left.. a civic turned across traffic and got T-boned by the Escalade who was speeding/running a red or something foolish. The civic went flying and the caddy veered off into me after impact. I had a large Tim's between my legs due to the lack of cup holders... really looked like I pissed myself lol!

No **** eh! I tried to keep it out of insurance and the inevitable write off but he would have none of it. The good news is that i've found what I consider to be a fantastic deal on a very similar car. Hopefully i'll clear enough through insurance to pick it up and buyback the wreck for parts.

/fingers crossed.

just tell them you want to keep the car

every time you talk to them, tell them you want to keep it

The buyback on that will probably be around $100. They'd just scrap it anyways, it's 25 years old.

I'd buy this car over a GSL-SE. I can tell you anything you need to know about the engine because I gave it to him out of my car when I went turbo. Brett is an aircraft mechanic and meticulously maintains his cars. Im a Heavy Equipment Technician. Although I dont know a darn thing about body work (yet) I do take well care of my drivetrain components.

The engine in Aviators car is great and he swapped out the tranny as well. This is a mechanically sound car. I knew the owner previous to Aviator and this car was very well looked after. Nice to see it get on the road instead of sleeping in a garage.....

You guys have just confirmed both of my assumptions on that car. To be honest, I've had the picture as my deskstop background for 3 days now and I am calling the insurance adjusters multiple times a day!

I am starting to get worried that someone else will pick it up before me, I think I'll wire him a deposit while I wait for the wheels on the insurance bus to go round and round.

Thanks for the heads up, having this community as a resource sure makes buying alot easier!

Well, I've settled with insurance. They started at 1,750 but I got them to 2,250 You were pretty damn close Joe.

The buy back to keep the car was rediculous (over 500) so I let them keep it and will try to track it down when it hits the junkyard.

Black Diamond, here I come.

Sorry to hear of your 7's premature demise. $500 insurance buy-back is ridiculous - since it's bound to go for scrap with them, they'll get $100-$125 at PnP for it - and pay an $80 tow to get it there. They wouldn't move on the buy-back price?

It was an awkward rushed negotiation and I was happy w/ my settlement and didn't wan't to foil it so I just signed off on it. I have the number for the people who are hauling it away so I will try catch up with it on the flipside. If/when I do, I'll post info here incase any of you guys want to pull anything.. its the least I can do for the help and support I've gotten here.

misterstyx69:
The donuts were long gone as I picked the coffee up on 52nd street timmies and letting it cool and smoking / shifting until **** hit the fan. I had the same thought about long john and the twins which was good for a laugh at work but in all honesty it wasn't McDonalds law suit hot if you know what I mean.
